What’s the secret of leading a team?

We’re surrounded by Leadership stories, which are trying to tell us “what to, and why to”, but we keep wonder how to?

No matter if you’re leading just a person or a huge team, every time a success is achieved it’s falling on the teamwork and the failure on you as a leader.

So, pull out the best of yourself and don’t allow your work to be average.

No matter if it's your first time leading a team or you’ve done it many times before, you’ll always need to keep some things in mind.

Leave the independence behind. Maybe you enjoy working independently, maybe you love doing all the things by yourself and nobody is blaming you, many of us are addicted to it. But now you have a team to worry about, you have a team to lead and to work with. Faster you get used to it, better.

Share your vision with them.Speak with your team, constantly. Communication is a key factor for a healthy relationship and you can never afford losing it. Share your vision with them, allow them to receive it and feel it themselves. That’s the first step of becoming a strong unity. And always remind them of what’s the purpose of what they do, always.

Ask them questions and listen. LISTEN. Maybe you’re their leader, maybe you’ve more experience, maybe you’re the expert, but more heads are always smarter than one. Feedback should be always welcomed, if you want to have a successful team.

Be there for them. Always. You cannot expect engagement if you’re far from your people and you shouldn’t. Be there for them, work with them, be part of the team. Care for each team member and they’ll care for what they’re doing.

Stand up for your team. Don’t forget that you’re their voice and that voice needs to be heard, make sure you do that. Speak up for your team, taking their opinion in consideration. Fight for their rights and wishes. You need to make sure they’re happy in doing what you ask them to do.

Set up an example. You set up the rules, you’re holding the vision, but the most important is for you to be their lead example. If you want dedicated team, you cannot expect getting it, if you are the person who’s not dedicated completely. You cannot ask people to work overtime, if you’re the first person going home. You cannot lead to the goal you’re aiming, if you’re not going the way with your own feet. Show your people an example of how the things are getting done.

If you keep this few things in mind, while leading other people, I don’t promise you that with all the people you lead, you’ll always accomplish your vision or goal, but I do assure you if you find the right people who can adapt to the process and you as a leader, you can achieve everything you wish.
